Windsor Castle

Day 14

The time is flying! I just can't believe we've already been here for two weeks!  I can't even begin to tell you what a fantastic experience this whole trip has been. It has been a whirlwind of art, architecture and great inspiration.  I love it!

We visited Windsor Castle today.  It sits right by the Thames River on the hill overlooking the area around.  For those of you who are unfamiliar, it is where the Queen calls home, as she considers Buckingham Palace "the office."  The castle really is grand.  It is the largest inhabited castle in the world.  St. Georges Chapel is considered one of the greatest examples of English perpendicular Gothic design, and the state rooms are designed in the Baroque style, with Rococo, Gothic, and Baroque style furniture.  My favorite was the Grand Reception Room.  It was restored back to almost original condition after the fire of 1992.  It is most definitely grand and over the top with a gilded Rococo ceiling, but the room just glows.  It is incredible.  Oh, and Queen Mary's Doll House was fantastic as well.  It was a collection of the most spectacular miniature pieces of furniture and little accessories, and even miniature replicas of the crown jewels. Very fun!

The little town around Windsor Castle is cute too!  We ate at a little place called Eat.  I had a sweet potato pie. mmm.  Oh, and one of the best parts... I had time to take a little nap! woo hoo! Fantastic day! :)

We got to see the changing of the guards.  Isn't he cool?
